The FILMS.

Out of Thick Air.

A Mountaineering Film about Air Pollution in the Chamonix Valley

“Out of Thick Air" takes a closer look at the growing problem of air pollution in the Alps through the lens of alpinists. It’s one of the world's most picturesque and beloved mountain ranges. Despite the image of the Alps being a pristine environment with clean air, research shows that air pollution is increasingly becoming a significant threat to the region's fragile ecosystem, human health, and the local economy.

Through interviews with local residents, experts, and scientists, "Air" provides a unique insight into the impact of air pollution on the region. From farmers struggling to keep their crops healthy, to hikers witnessing the disappearance of once-clear mountain vistas, the film explores the effects of air pollution on the daily lives of those who call the Alps their home.

The documentary also showcases the initiatives being taken by local governments, NGOs, and community groups to tackle the issue, including measures to reduce emissions from transport and industry, promote sustainable agriculture, and increase public awareness.

Snow Good.

A Skiing Film about the changing state of snow packs and available snow days in the high alpine.

"Snow good" takes viewers on a journey through the impact of global warming on ski resorts worldwide. As ski enthusiasts gather at their favorite resort for their annual winter trip, they are shocked to find that the once powdery slopes are now bare and brown. Through interviews with experts, resort owners, and skiers, the film uncovers the stark reality of climate change and its devastating effects on the ski industry.

From the melting of glaciers to the disappearance of snowmaking opportunities, the documentary paints a stark picture of a world without snow. As skiers and snowboarders adapt to changing conditions, they must also come to terms with the broader implications of a warming planet.

Ultimately, "Snow good" serves as a call to action for individuals, businesses, and policymakers to take urgent steps to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change before it's too late.

Catching Clouds.

A Running Film about Moroccos cloud catchers bringing water to communities.

Rockfall is becoming a growing concern in the Alps, with a recent increase in the number of rockfall incidents posing a serious threat to hikers, climbers, and residents in the region. This documentary will explore the causes behind this phenomenon, examining how climate change, erosion, and human activity are contributing to the problem. For example, as temperatures rise in the Alps due to climate change, permafrost is melting and destabilising rock formations. Meanwhile, erosion caused by construction and deforestation is making the slopes more susceptible to rockfall.

Through interviews with geologists, mountain rescue teams, and those who have witnessed the devastation firsthand, we will delve into the science behind rockfall and the measures being taken to mitigate its impact. For instance, we will learn about new technologies that can detect and monitor rockfall risks, as well as the use of barriers and other protective measures. We will also examine the economic impact of rockfall on tourism and infrastructure, as well as the psychological toll on those who live and work in the Alps.

EXAMPLE

We created a 20 minute film for Hong Kong Science Festival about how we use drones to 3D model glaciers. The film looked at the current way we monitor glaciers and how new technology can help us look at how glaciers are changing and what that means for the local people.
